ipad application
I used my mother in laws Ipad, she has downloaded several applications already downloaded for the kids to use. I searched through the different apps and found Brain Challenge, its a game that you can set up to your personal settings. It works on your memory skills, math skills, visual skills, and motor skills.
I think this would be helpful in the class room because it uses repetition to help the kids learn math skills and also works on their memory skills. It is a timed challenge, I think that would be helpful in making the kids faster thinkers.

Grow School Greens | the colors for the page were bright green, it drew your attention to the web quest. There were a lot of helpful links on how to grow plants and when the best times to grow them are. There were several pictures, most of which were moving somehow that makes it interesting to look at, and pictures of vegetables and soil. | two of the links that I tried didn't work. one said the page was not available and the other went to a site about building, nothing about vegetables |
Where is My Hero? | The web quest was colorful. It has a lot of great pictures in use for the possible heroes. The links that i checked all worked and took you to the correct pages. There is a rubric scale that the students can look at to evaluate their paper. The downloads were nice because they are always there, no having to hand them out. | the first link took you to a page to look up the definition of a hero, but you had to scroll through a lot of stuff, the kids may get distracted. |

B. I think that as long as the right type of people are editing it and they are watching for spam and vandalism then it would be pretty reliable.
C. The article says that they put it in the wisdom of crowds. They have a group of people that watch the pages for vandalism and if they find it they repair it quickly.
D.Mr Sager left because he felt that more authority should be given to the experts.
E.It would most likely be someone or some group posting misinforming information about a topic, like if radical group thought that the information on the page wasn't what they wanted it to say and made changes to it that they felt better with.

I feel that this quote is very true. I find even more interesting that it came from George Lucas the creator of Star Wars. With the way technology is changing everyday, I think that if you are not literate at it then you will be considered illiterate. Being able to use technology properly is going to be a major part of any job that our students will get. If they can not properly use sound and video they will have a difficult time putting slide show presentations together and also using power point to do projects.

why teach media literacy

Reaction:
Research going on today not only suggests that we need to make children proficient readers in text books but also on the internet and using web pages. After reading the the research part of the article I was surprised at how many kids were required to use the internet at school to so work. I think that if we are going to be having kids use the internet that they do need to be able to recognize the good and bad of the web sites.

I think that they need to know what all the different colors can stand for and how using a color in different ways can make you think differently. I also feel that it is important that they realize how different camera angles can be used to make the person in the picture look and appear to be acting in a way that they are not (the picture of President Bush in the article) or even make them look bigger as in the pictures of Arnold that we saw in class.

ISTE/NETS for digital storytelling
This is a link to a website that I found for lesson plans. Its based on my science major, and looked pretty interesting. The class will get to use the internet and another program, Microsoft Worldwide Telescope (WWT) to look at the stars and different constellations. This should take about five days to finish the project. During the project students will observe the stars on the internet and the WWT website. In the project the students can look at the size and shape, its brightness, color and mass. At the end of this project the students will make a WWT tour telling the information that they found out about the stars and then share their tour with other class members. I think that this type of project would fit into 1c. of the ISTE/NETS.

the world of art

I have always been one of those people that thought art in schools is important. I really like how this article gives another perspective of how art can be used in class rooms. Its great to be able to have the technology to have kids do digital stories in the class or to have them use the computers to make new forms of art. I think that we should give children every possible tool to learn with, and digital media and art are on top of that list. Computers are not going away, if anything they are getting better and better everyday. And kids are going to need to know how to use it, because this i believe is where the jobs are going to be.

To Change or not To Change??

Reaction:
After reading the article I have mixed feelings. I think that there could be things done to improve spelling scores for students. There have been suggestions that the spelling of certain words be changed so they are spelled more like they sound. My question for that would be, when do you start this if it were to ever happen? How do you tell people that the way they have been spelling words is no longer the way to spell them. Some suggest that text lingo will help with the spelling reform. That it will help people to recognize that the spelling of words need to be easier. I'm not sure that I agree that people sending texts will help to reform anything, I may totally be wrong and sometime in my teaching career I may see a change in spelling.

My husbands comic
I went home from class today and was telling my husband about the comic that we made today in class. I showed him the one that Shana and I made and he laughed at it, which is the point so that was good. So he wanted to make his own, and this is what he made. I hope everyone gets it.

Learning style test
After taking the learning style test, it says that my highest way of learning is aural, meaning that I learn better from hearing things in a lecture situation . Also I had a high score in kinesthetic meaning that I learn well after doing things over and over. I was surprised to see that visual was my lowest score. I've never really thought about how I prefer to learn but I don't really like to use graphs or charts. Its not that I don't like them, I just seem to not use them. I love to read and try new things and that is where my scores are higher.

Facilitate and inspire students learning and creativity
Wordle (a text analysis tool) that compiles the answers or thoughts of someone. What we used it for in class was to post everyones answers from our question that we ask on Poll Everywhere, whis is an audience respose tool. We had to come up with a question that we wanted to know about the other students in the class.

From what we have done so far in class and what I have read online about using wordle and poll everywhere, I am really looking forward to using it in a classroom. I think that they are going to be great tools to help the kids learn and get to know one another. But more importantly help me to understand how the kids learn and what interests them adn helps them learning. I plan to teach science, I think that its going to be great for when we do experiments to post the answers.
I think that these tools will engage the students and allow them to become more creative and inspired when doing their work, answering questions and turning in homework.

After reading the article, I was kinda surprised. I figured that with all the texts messages and emails that people send and receive, that there would be more misuses of spelling and grammar. The studies that are in the article about how many college students actually spell out words instead of using lingo or shortened words is interesting. I thought for sure that it would be a lot higher because they are always in a hurry to get stuff done and not wanting to type out the entire word. I have a young son and he texts all the time, and there are several times when he will text me and I don't know what he is saying with some of the abbreviations.

I was completely shocked when I read this article.This is a little scary because I have one young son in grade -school now, and its hard to think that the job he may be going for is something that I will not be able to help him prepare for. But at the same time as a student myself I'm hoping that I will learn the techniques that I need to help him out a little and also to help other students when I'm out in the school system teaching. The article talks about how education needs to change the way that children learn, incorporating new technology into our teaching plans and the way that we teach students.
